Our Camp Mission:
Camp Knot-A-Phe exists to provide a safe, fun, educational, and supportive environment for individuals and families living with PKU and Allied Disorders.
As a volunteer, you represent ANPAD and play a critical role in ensuring every camper feels welcome, included, and safe.

REQUIRED FOR ALL VOLUNTEERS
Every volunteer should have:

✓ Camp Schedule
✓ Name Badge/Lanyard
✓ Emergency Contact Sheet
✓ Water Bottle

Please review the map and schedule before your first shift.
You should know:

  • Dining Hall location
  • Chapel
  • Cypress Room
  • Nurse Cabin
  • First Aid Locations
  • Vendor Fair Area
  • Pool
  • Horse Area
  • Arts & Crafts Area
  • Check-In Area
  • Frontier Village/Yurts
  • Restrooms

CAMP RULES
Buddy System

  • The Buddy System applies to EVERYONE.
    • No camper, sibling, volunteer, or guest should be walking around camp alone.
    • If you see someone alone, help connect them with their family, group, or activity.
  • No Food in Cabins- keeping cabin doors closed and refrain from storing food in the cabins. You are in a forest- mice, javelinas and other creatures live here too.

Camper Supervision

  • Never leave campers unattended.
  • Know where your assigned group is located.
  • Report concerns immediately.
  • Follow camp schedules and transitions.

Inclusion

  • Campers range from infants to adults.
  • Many have PKU or Allied Disorders and may have developmental, medical, or dietary needs.
  • Treat everyone with patience, respect, and kindness.

MEDICAL INFORMATION
Camp Nurse: Rhoda Cabin: Willow 
First Aid Support: Gina - Main Dining Hall 
 Site Nurse: Danielle - on site : Cell (520) 861-6530

MEDICAL EMERGENCY PROCEDURE

  • Stay with participant(s).
  • Contact Rhoda or Danielle immediately.
  • Contact Ann or Jami.
  • Do not move injured individuals unless necessary for safety.
  • If life-threatening, call 911.

HYDRATION
Hydration is a priority. - Water and Gatorade should be available at every activity.

Watch for: 

  • Dizziness
  • Headaches
  • Fatigue
  • Overheating

Notify Rhoda or Danielle immediately if concerns arise.

If supplies are low:
Contact: Any ANPAD BOARD MEMBER- Ann, Jami, Jodi, Danielle, Melissa, Brittany , Myra or Peggy


IF YOU CANNOT WORK YOUR SHIFT
If you cannot make your shift:

  1. Contact your area coordinator immediately.
  2. Contact Jami.
  3. Do NOT leave your position without coverage.
  4. Stay at your assignment until leadership arrives.
  5. No volunteer should recruit their own replacement without notifying leadership.


GENERAL EXPECTATIONS
Please:

  1. Arrive 10 minutes early.
  2. Wear your name badge.
  3. Be flexible.
  4. Assist where needed.
  5. Help families find activities.
  6. Encourage participation.

If you don't know an answer, say: "Let me find someone who can help."

EDUCATIONAL TALKS

  • Volunteers should encourage families to attend educational sessions.
  • Many families attend camp specifically for education and support.

If a talk is starting soon:

  1. Remind nearby campers.
  2. Help direct families to locations.
  3. Assist with room setup if needed.

MEAL TIMES- Meals are a major community event.
Volunteers should:

  • Help families find seating.
  • Welcome new families.
  • Assist with special needs if you are a Pow Wow leader
  • Monitor food areas for safety and cleanliness.

EMERGENCY SITUATIONS
Immediately notify leadership if:

  • Camper is missing
  • Medical emergency
  • Behavioral concern
  • Parent concern
  • Facility problem
  • Severe weather
  • Safety concern

When in doubt, report it.


VOLUNTEER REMINDER
You are not expected to know everything.
You are expected to:

  1. Keep campers safe
  2. Communicate concerns
  3. Be welcoming
  4. Help families have an amazing weekend
